THE GLOWLING COVE

THE GLOWLING COVE

Intro

Far beyond the places marked on maps, hidden deep beneath the moonlit waves, lies a magical underwater kingdom called Glowling Cove.

It is a place where tiny glowing sea creatures drift through sparkling coral forests, dance among bubble gardens, and light up the ocean like floating stars.

Every Glowling has a special glow.

Some shine blue like moonlight.

Some sparkle pink like seashells.

Some glow gold, purple, green, or silver.

But when the magical Moon Pearl suddenly disappears, the lights of Glowling Cove begin to fade.

Now two unlikely friends, Juni the brave little sea dragon and Auggie the cheerful jellyfish, must set off on an unforgettable adventure to find the missing pearl before the Festival of Lights begins.

Along the way they will discover mysterious caves, giggling sea creatures, glowing treasures, and an important lesson about friendship, courage, and believing in your own light.

Because sometimes the smallest glow can shine the brightest of all.

Chapter One

The Glow That Flickered

Deep beneath the ocean waves, hidden far beyond any human map, sat the magical kingdom of Glowling Cove.

Everything glowed.

The coral glowed.

The seaweed glowed.

Even the tiny pebbles sparkled softly in the sand.

Most importantly, the Glowlings glowed.

Hundreds of tiny magical sea creatures drifted through the water like living stars.

Today was an exciting day.

The Festival of Lights was only three days away.

Every Glowling was busy preparing.

Well...

Almost every Glowling.

Juni the sea dragon was currently stuck upside down inside a coral bush.

His tail wiggled.

His fins flapped.

Nothing helped.

"I meant to do that," he announced.

"You say that every time," said a voice nearby.

Auggie the jellyfish floated past carrying a basket of glowing shells.

Juni finally tumbled free.

The coral bush sneezed bubbles at him.

"See?" said Juni proudly. "Perfect landing."

"You landed in a bush."

"Exactly."

Auggie sighed.

The festival was definitely going to be interesting.

Then suddenly...

One of the glowing coral lamps flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then went dark.

The two friends stared.

That had never happened before.

Chapter Two

The Missing Moon Pearl

The flickering lights spread quickly.

One lamp.

Then another.

Then another.

All across Glowling Cove, the beautiful glow began fading.

The excited festival music stopped.

The Glowlings gathered nervously.

"What is happening?"

"Why are the lights fading?"

"Did someone unplug the ocean?"

At the centre of the kingdom stood a giant pearl resting inside a shimmering shell.

The Moon Pearl.

It powered every glow in the entire ocean kingdom.

Only now...

The shell was empty.

Completely empty.

Auggie's eyes widened.

"The Moon Pearl is gone!"

Gasps echoed through the crowd.

Juni blinked.

"Maybe it's hiding."

"It's a giant glowing pearl."

"Oh."

The crowd became louder.

Everyone spoke at once.

Nobody had any answers.

Then Coraline the seahorse librarian floated forward.

Her glasses sat on top of her head.

As usual.

"The Moon Pearl must be found immediately."

Juni puffed out his chest.

"We'll find it."

Auggie looked at him.

"We will?"

"Apparently."

Chapter Three

The Singing Coral Forest

The first clue led them to the Singing Coral Forest.

Thousands of colourful coral towers stretched high above them.

Each coral sang a different note.

The result sounded terrible.

Absolutely terrible.

Juni covered his ears.

"It sounds like a whale sitting on a piano."

Nearby, a glowing turtle slowly nodded.

"Accurate."

Auggie searched among the coral.

Then stopped.

"Look!"

Wedged between two coral branches sat a tiny silver scale.

It shimmered brightly.

Juni picked it up.

"It doesn't belong to a Glowling."

The turtle squinted.

"Oh yes."

"You've seen it before?"

"No."

"Then how do you know?"

"It looks unfamiliar."

The turtle drifted away.

Neither of them found that particularly helpful.

But at least they had their first clue.

Someone unusual had passed through the forest.

Chapter Four

The Bubble Maze

The silver scale led them to the Bubble Maze.

Thousands of giant floating bubbles formed twisting tunnels beneath the sea.

The maze changed shape every few minutes.

Auggie immediately got distracted.

"Ooooooh."

"No."

"Ooooooh."

"No."

"Ooooooh."

Five minutes later she was stuck inside a giant bubble.

Juni burst out laughing.

"You look like a floating potato."

Auggie folded her jellyfish arms.

"This is not helping."

After freeing her, they continued deeper into the maze.

Then they heard crying.

A tiny pufferfish sat alone on a bubble bridge.

His spikes trembled nervously.

"What's wrong?" asked Auggie.

"I got lost."

"We're lost too."

The pufferfish blinked.

"Really?"

"Oh yes," said Juni.

"We're just pretending not to be."

The pufferfish smiled slightly.

His name was Bubbles.

And he decided to join the adventure.

Chapter Five

Sir Wiggles' Very Important Job

The trail eventually led them to a strange cave.

Inside sat Sir Wiggles.

A glowing sea worm wearing a tiny top hat.

He looked extremely busy.

"What are you doing?" asked Juni.

Sir Wiggles looked around.

"I'm not entirely sure."

"You don't know?"

"No."

"Then why are you busy?"

"Because it feels important."

Fair enough.

The friends showed him the silver scale.

Sir Wiggles immediately gasped.

"I know who that belongs to!"

Everyone leaned closer.

"Who?"

Sir Wiggles paused.

Then frowned.

Then scratched his head.

Then frowned again.

"I forgot."

The three friends groaned.

But after several minutes of thinking, Sir Wiggles finally snapped his fingers.

"The Moonlit Trench!"

"What about it?" asked Auggie.

"That's where I saw a creature with scales exactly like that."

Juni's eyes widened.

The Moonlit Trench was the deepest place in the ocean.

And according to every Glowling story ever told...

Something mysterious lived there.

Something nobody had seen clearly before.

And now it seemed they were heading straight towards it.

Chapter Six

The Creature in the Trench

The Moonlit Trench was dark.

Very dark.

Even the bravest Glowlings rarely visited.

Juni, Auggie, and Bubbles drifted carefully downward.

The deeper they travelled, the quieter everything became.

No singing coral.

No cheerful fish.

No festival music.

Only darkness.

And then...

Two giant glowing eyes opened nearby.

Everyone froze.

Bubbles immediately puffed into a spiky ball.

Auggie hid behind Juni.

Juni hid behind Auggie.

The eyes blinked.

Then a voice spoke.

"Hello."

The three friends screamed.

The creature looked confused.

"Was that rude?"

Slowly, the creature swam closer.

She was enormous.

Her scales shimmered silver and blue.

A glowing tail floated behind her like moonlight.

"My name is Luna," she said kindly.

Auggie blinked.

"You're not scary."

"I get that a lot."

Luna noticed the silver scale.

"Oh dear."

She looked worried.

"I think I know what happened to the Moon Pearl."

Chapter Seven

The Truth About the Pearl

Luna led them deeper into the trench.

Soon they reached a hidden cave glowing with pale silver light.

Inside sat a tiny baby Glowling.

She looked frightened.

And beside her...

Was the Moon Pearl.

Everyone gasped.

"The thief!" shouted Juni.

The baby Glowling burst into tears.

"I didn't steal it!"

Auggie floated closer.

"Then why do you have it?"

The little Glowling sniffled.

"My glow stopped working."

She pointed sadly at her dim body.

"Everyone else glows beautifully."

"I barely glow at all."

The Moon Pearl had made her shine again.

Juni's face softened.

"Oh."

The little Glowling looked down.

"I only borrowed it."

Nobody said anything for a moment.

Then Luna spoke gently.

"Sometimes when we're sad, we make poor choices."

The baby Glowling nodded.

She already knew she'd made a mistake.

Chapter Eight

The Fading Festival

Back in Glowling Cove, things were getting worse.

The lights were fading faster now.

The glowing coral lamps had almost gone dark.

The Festival of Lights was due to begin the next evening.

But nobody felt like celebrating.

The kingdom looked dull and grey.

The baby Glowling began crying again.

"It's all my fault."

Auggie wrapped a tentacle around her.

"Maybe."

The baby looked shocked.

"But making a mistake doesn't make you a bad person."

Juni nodded.

"It just means you need to fix it."

The baby Glowling thought carefully.

Then she stood up.

"I want to help."

For the first time since they'd met her...

A tiny spark appeared inside her glow.

Chapter Nine

The Brightest Light

The friends carried the Moon Pearl back to its giant shell.

Hundreds of Glowlings gathered around.

Everyone watched nervously.

The baby Glowling stepped forward.

Her voice shook slightly.

"I'm sorry."

The crowd stayed silent.

"I took the Moon Pearl because I felt different."

A few Glowlings exchanged glances.

Then an elderly starfish floated forward.

"I feel different too."

"So do I," said a crab.

"Me too," said a seahorse.

Soon dozens of creatures were speaking.

The baby Glowling stared.

She had thought she was alone.

She wasn't.

Not even a little.

Auggie smiled.

"See?"

Juni grinned.

"Everybody's weird."

"Juni."

"What? It's true."

The baby laughed for the first time.

Then carefully placed the Moon Pearl back into its shell.

Chapter Ten

The Festival of Lights

The moment the Moon Pearl touched its shell...

WHOOSH!

Golden light exploded across the kingdom.

Coral sparkled.

Seaweed glowed.

Bubbles shimmered.

Every Glowling lit up brighter than ever before.

The crowd cheered.

The Festival of Lights had been saved.

Music filled the water.

Lantern fish danced.

Sea turtles performed slow-motion ballet.

Sir Wiggles accidentally fell into the punch bowl.

Twice.

The baby Glowling's glow returned too.

Not because of the Moon Pearl.

Because she had finally realised something important.

Her glow didn't need to be the same as everyone else's.

Different was beautiful too.

Later that night, Juni, Auggie, and Bubbles sat watching thousands of glowing lights drift through the ocean.

"We did it," said Auggie.

"We sure did," said Bubbles.

Juni smiled proudly.

Then accidentally rolled backwards off his rock.

Everyone burst out laughing.

And far beneath the sparkling ocean, Glowling Cove glowed brighter than it ever had before.

The End.

Little Lesson:
You do not have to shine like everybody else. The world would be a much less magical place if we were all exactly the same. 💜
