NEWIEPOO AND THE WHISPERING DRAGONS

NEWIEPOO AND THE WHISPERING DRAGONS

✨ Written for a very special little adventurer 💙

When NewiePoo discovers a mysterious glowing compass hidden inside his grandad’s attic, he accidentally unlocks a hidden doorway beneath Ariana’s treehouse.

Beyond it lies a forgotten world filled with whispering forests, floating mountains, and dragons nobody in the human world remembers anymore.

Some dragons are playful.

Some are shy.

And some are hiding dangerous secrets deep beneath the mountains.

As strange storms begin spreading through the magical world, NewiePoo and the girls must uncover why the dragons have stopped singing before the entire valley falls silent forever.

But the deeper they travel into the hidden kingdom, the clearer one thing becomes:

The compass did not choose NewiePoo by accident.

Chapter One

The Roar Beneath The Hill

NewiePoo heard the sound before anyone else.

A deep rumble rolled beneath the grass under his trainers.

He stopped walking instantly.

“Did you feel that?” he asked.

Ariana looked up from the map she was holding. “Feel what?”

“The ground.”

Mai dramatically jumped backwards. “If a giant worm eats me, I’m haunting all of you.”

Melia crouched beside a patch of clovers, frowning slightly. “Wait.”

The rumble came again.

This time stronger.

Birds burst from the trees ahead.

Then everything went silent.

Too silent.

Even the wind stopped.

NewiePoo slowly turned toward the hill at the edge of the forest.

At the very top sat an old stone archway covered in moss and twisting vines.

It definitely had not been there yesterday.

Mai narrowed her eyes. “That’s suspicious.”

“A little suspicious?” Ariana asked.

“No. Extremely suspicious.”

Melia grinned.

“So we’re going closer?”

“Obviously,” Mai said immediately.

NewiePoo stepped forward first.

As they climbed the hill, the strange rumbling grew louder beneath their feet, almost like something enormous was moving underground.

Halfway up, Ariana noticed markings carved into the stones.

Curved lines.

Huge claw marks.

And one symbol repeated over and over again.

A dragon.

NewiePoo brushed dirt from the centre of the carving.

The dragon’s eyes suddenly glowed blue.

The stone archway creaked open.

And somewhere far below them…

Something roared.

Chapter Two

The Hidden Valley

Cold air rushed from the tunnel beyond the archway.

Mai leaned forward dramatically.

“If we disappear forever,” she announced, “I want everyone to know I was brave.”

“You’re holding onto my arm,” Ariana pointed out.

“That’s tactical bravery.”

NewiePoo laughed quietly and stepped into the tunnel first.

Blue crystals glowed faintly inside the walls, lighting the path ahead.

The deeper they walked, the warmer the air became.

Then the tunnel opened.

All four children stopped dead.

An enormous hidden valley stretched before them.

Waterfalls poured down cliffs covered in glowing plants. Giant trees twisted into the clouds. Strange birds flew overhead with shimmering feathers.

And dragons.

Real dragons.

Tiny dragons zipped through the sky like colourful kites.

Huge dragons slept beside rivers.

One dragon the size of a house slowly lifted its head and blinked golden eyes at them.

Mai squeaked.

Melia waved enthusiastically.

The dragon blinked again.

Then sneezed smoke.

NewiePoo stared in complete amazement.

“No one is ever going to believe this.”

A small green dragon suddenly crash landed into a bush nearby.

“Ow,” it groaned.

The children froze.

The dragon untangled itself from the branches and stood up.

It was about the size of a Labrador with crooked horns and bright silver eyes.

“You’re humans,” it said.

Mai pointed immediately.

“That dragon talks.”

The dragon looked offended.

“Of course I talk.”

Then it paused.

“Oh. Wait. Right.”

It sighed heavily.

“Sorry. We haven’t had visitors in about three hundred years.”

Chapter Three

The Dragon Named Flicker

“My name is Flicker,” the dragon explained proudly.

Then he accidentally sneezed sparks into a puddle.

The puddle exploded into steam.

Flicker coughed awkwardly.

“I’m still learning control.”

Mai looked delighted.

“You’re my favourite already.”

Melia carefully stepped closer. “Can we pet him?”

“You may admire me respectfully,” Flicker announced.

Two seconds later he rolled onto his back for belly rubs.

NewiePoo scratched gently under Flicker’s chin while Ariana studied the valley carefully.

Something felt wrong.

The dragons looked nervous.

Quiet.

Even the sky felt dimmer somehow.

“You said you haven’t had visitors in three hundred years,” Ariana said. “Why?”

Flicker’s tail stopped swishing.

“The mountain closed.”

“What does that mean?” NewiePoo asked.

Flicker glanced toward the enormous black mountain towering over the valley.

“The Whispering Mountain protects dragon magic. But now…” His voice lowered. “The whispers are disappearing.”

Almost immediately, a loud cracking sound echoed across the valley.

Several dragons lifted their heads nervously.

Mai crossed her arms. “That doesn’t sound good.”

“It isn’t,” Flicker admitted quietly.

A shadow moved high above them.

Massive wings spread across the sky.

Then a gigantic silver dragon descended through the clouds.

The force of her landing shook the ground beneath them.

NewiePoo’s eyes widened.

The dragon lowered her enormous head until one glowing eye stared directly at him.

“You brought humans here?” she asked Flicker.

Flicker swallowed hard.

“…Maybe.”

Chapter Four

The Silver Dragon Queen

The silver dragon was enormous.

Her scales shimmered like moonlight across water, and long silver horns curved behind her head like crowns.

Mai whispered, “She’s terrifying.”

“She’s beautiful,” Melia whispered back.

The dragon queen studied each child carefully.

Then her eyes rested on NewiePoo.

“You heard the mountain,” she said.

It wasn’t a question.

NewiePoo nodded slowly.

“I thought it was thunder.”

“The mountain only speaks to certain hearts.”

Mai looked immediately offended.

“Excuse me. I have an excellent heart.”

The dragon queen blinked slowly.

“You tried to poke a sleeping dragon with a stick three minutes ago.”

Mai lowered the stick behind her back.

“That feels unrelated.”

Even the dragon queen looked slightly amused.

Her expression softened a little as she looked back toward NewiePoo.

“The mountain is weakening,” she explained. “Something beneath it is waking again.”

Flicker’s wings twitched nervously.

“The Shadow Drake?” he whispered.

The queen nodded once.

Melia frowned. “What’s a Shadow Drake?”

Nobody answered immediately.

That was somehow worse.

Finally, the queen spoke quietly.

“The last creature born from broken dragon magic.”

A low growl echoed somewhere beneath the valley.

The ground trembled again.

And far above them…

The clouds began turning black.

Chapter Five

The Cave Of Whispers

That evening, Flicker guided the children toward the base of the mountain.

Tiny glowing dragons followed behind them curiously.

Mai was carrying a wooden shield she had found somewhere.

Nobody knew where.

“Protection,” she explained confidently.

“It’s a chopping board,” Ariana said.

Mai held it tighter anyway.

The cave entrance waited beneath twisted stone roots.

Warm air breathed slowly from inside.

Like the mountain itself was alive.

NewiePoo stepped closer first.

Immediately, faint whispers filled the air around them.

Not scary whispers.

Sad ones.

Lost ones.

Thousands of soft dragon voices echoing through the stone.

Melia’s eyes widened.

“The mountain remembers everything.”

Flicker nodded quietly.

“Every dragon voice becomes part of the mountain forever.”

Ariana touched one glowing crystal inside the wall.

A whisper suddenly became clear.

HELP US.

The children froze.

Another whisper echoed through the cave.

HE IS WAKING.

Deep inside the mountain…

Something enormous moved.

And two glowing red eyes opened in the darkness.

Chapter Six

The Shadow Beneath The Mountain

The red eyes blinked once in the darkness.

Then the entire cave shook.

Dust rained from the ceiling.

Mai grabbed NewiePoo’s arm so fast she nearly pulled him sideways.

“I officially dislike this cave now.”

Flicker puffed nervous smoke from his nose.

“We should go.”

The whispering voices inside the walls suddenly grew louder.

RUN.
HIDE.
WAKE THE LIGHT.

Ariana frowned. “What does wake the light mean?”

The dragon queen appeared behind them silently, her silver scales glowing faintly in the dark cave.

“It means there may still be hope.”

She lowered her head toward a narrow tunnel twisting deeper underground.

“Long ago, dragon fire was protected by the Heart Flame.”

Melia tilted her head. “What’s that?”

“A living crystal,” the queen explained softly. “As long as it glows, the Shadow Drake cannot fully rise.”

NewiePoo looked toward the darkness again.

“So… why is it waking now?”

The queen’s expression darkened.

“Because the Heart Flame is dying.”

A deep roar echoed beneath the mountain.

Closer this time.

Mai slowly lifted the chopping board shield again.

“I knew this would become important.”

Chapter Seven

The Crystal Forest

The tunnel opened into the most beautiful place NewiePoo had ever seen.

Towering crystals stretched upward like frozen trees, glowing blue, gold, and purple beneath the mountain.

Light sparkled across the walls like stars.

Even Mai stopped talking for a second.

Which worried everybody slightly.

At the centre of the crystal forest floated a huge glowing gem suspended above a stone platform.

The Heart Flame.

But something was wrong.

Its light flickered weakly.

Dark cracks spread slowly through its centre.

Melia stepped closer sadly. “It looks tired.”

Flicker lowered his ears. “It used to light the entire valley.”

Suddenly the crystals around them trembled.

Black smoke slithered through the cave floor.

Then came the growl again.

Much louder now.

The Shadow Drake was coming.

“Hide!” Ariana whispered.

The children ducked behind giant crystals just as a massive dark shape crawled into the chamber.

NewiePoo’s heart hammered.

The Shadow Drake looked nothing like the other dragons.

Its scales were jagged black stone.

Red cracks glowed beneath them like lava.

Smoke curled from its mouth as it stalked toward the Heart Flame.

Mai peeked around the crystal carefully.

Then whispered, “That thing is definitely evil.”

The Shadow Drake lowered its head toward the crystal.

And opened its mouth.

Chapter Eight

Mai’s Terrible Plan

“Absolutely not,” Mai whispered.

Before anyone could stop her, she stood up holding the chopping board shield.

“HEY!”

Every head turned.

Including the Shadow Drake’s.

Ariana looked horrified.

“Mai!”

“What?” Mai whispered loudly. “I panicked confidently!”

The Shadow Drake growled deep enough to shake the crystals.

Flicker fainted dramatically behind a rock.

NewiePoo quickly stepped beside Mai.

“We need to distract it,” he whispered.

Mai grinned suddenly.

“I have an idea.”

“That sentence scares me.”

Mai grabbed a loose crystal from the ground and hurled it across the cave.

CRASH.

The crystal shattered loudly against the wall.

The Shadow Drake spun toward the sound instantly.

“RUN!” Mai yelled.

The children sprinted through the crystal forest while the giant dragon thundered after them.

Melia grabbed Flicker under one arm while he screamed dramatically.

“I’M TOO YOUNG TO BE BARBECUED!”

The cave shook violently as the Shadow Drake smashed through crystal pillars behind them.

NewiePoo spotted a narrow gap between two enormous rocks ahead.

“This way!”

The children squeezed through just as the Shadow Drake slammed into the opening.

Its giant claws scraped against the stone inches away from them.

Then everything went quiet.

Too quiet.

Mai exhaled shakily.

“…I think I deserve credit for that.”

“You nearly got us eaten,” Ariana replied.

“Yes,” Mai agreed proudly. “But creatively.”

Chapter Nine

The Boy Who Heard The Mountain

The hidden tunnel led them into a small glowing chamber deep beneath the mountain.

Strange symbols covered the walls.

Dragon wings.

Stars.

And handprints.

Human handprints.

NewiePoo stepped closer slowly.

One of the handprints suddenly glowed bright blue beneath his fingers.

The mountain whispered again.

Not thousands of voices this time.

Just one.

A child’s voice.

HEARTS THAT LISTEN CAN WAKE THE FLAME.

NewiePoo swallowed nervously.

“What does that mean?”

The dragon queen appeared quietly behind them.

“It means the mountain chose you.”

“Me?” he asked.

“You heard the whispers before any of us.”

The queen lowered her head gently.

“Dragon magic does not follow strength. It follows kindness, courage, and hearts willing to protect others.”

Mai pointed proudly at herself.

“I have at least one of those.”

Melia smiled softly at NewiePoo.

“You can do this.”

The Heart Flame flickered weakly somewhere beyond the walls.

The mountain rumbled again.

Time was running out.

The queen nodded toward the final glowing doorway ahead.

“Beyond that door lies the Flame Chamber.”

NewiePoo stared at the light nervously.

Then took a deep breath.

And stepped forward.

Chapter Ten

The Whispering Dragons

The Flame Chamber glowed gold and silver.

At its centre floated the Heart Flame, cracked and fading.

Dark smoke curled around it like claws.

The Shadow Drake stood nearby waiting.

Its red eyes narrowed the moment NewiePoo entered.

The enormous dragon roared so loudly the chamber shook.

But this time…

NewiePoo didn’t run.

The whispers filled the air around him again.

Soft dragon voices.

Scared voices.

Hopeful voices.

LISTEN.

NewiePoo closed his eyes.

He thought about Ariana always protecting everyone.

Melia seeing kindness even in dangerous creatures.

Mai being brave even when she was scared.

Flicker trying his best despite making mistakes.

And suddenly…

Warm golden light spread from his chest into the chamber.

The Heart Flame responded instantly.

Its glow brightened.

The whispers became louder.

Beautiful.

Powerful.

Alive.

The Shadow Drake staggered backward roaring angrily as golden cracks spread across its dark scales.

Then something unexpected happened.

It stopped growling.

Its red eyes faded slowly into deep silver.

The black stone scales crumbled away like ash.

Underneath was another dragon.

A wounded one.

A lonely one.

The dragon lowered its enormous head sadly.

The queen stepped forward carefully.

“You were never evil,” she whispered.

“You were broken.”

The mountain rumbled softly one final time.

Then light exploded through the valley above.

Every dragon voice rose together in one enormous joyful roar.

The Whispering Dragons had returned.

Flicker burst into tears immediately.

Mai hugged her chopping board emotionally.

And NewiePoo smiled as glowing dragons filled the sky above the valley once more.

Far overhead, the clouds finally cleared.

And the mountain whispered one last thing.

THANK YOU.
