THE FLINK WHO WOULDN’T FLINK

THE FLINK WHO WOULDN’T FLINK

Everyone in the Flink Forest knew one very important rule:

Never stop flinking.

Flinks were tiny magical creatures who bounced, blinked, squeaked, and zipped everywhere together in giant fluffy crowds. They copied each other constantly.

If one Flink sneezed…

Twenty others sneezed too.

If one Flink jumped…

The whole forest bounced.

But one little purple Flink?

He was different.

And honestly…

He was getting a bit tired of pretending not to be.

Chapter One

The Flink Who Didn’t Flink

Every morning in the Flink Forest began exactly the same way.

Hundreds of tiny blue Flinks bounced out of their mushroom homes, squeaking and spinning in giant fluffy groups.

They copied each other constantly.

If one Flink blinked twice…

Everyone blinked twice.

If one Flink tripped…

The entire crowd tripped dramatically.

But one little purple Flink stood on a rock with his arms folded.

Watching.

Not joining in.

“You’re supposed to flink with us!” shouted a blue Flink.

The purple Flink sighed.

“I am flinking.”

“No you’re not,” another gasped. “You’re standing still.”

“That’s because,” said the purple Flink proudly, “I like standing still.”

The other Flinks looked horrified.

Standing still?

On purpose?

Absolutely strange behaviour.

And honestly…

The purple Flink didn’t care anymore.

Chapter Two

The Thing In The Woods

That evening, while the other Flinks practised group bouncing for the annual Moon Parade, the purple Flink wandered deeper into the forest alone.

That was when he heard it.

CRASH.

Rustle rustle.

THUMP.

Something huge moved behind the glowing trees.

The purple Flink froze.

Slowly…

A giant fluffy creature stepped out from the shadows.

It had rainbow scales.

Tiny curled horns.

A fluffy feathered tail.

And enormous worried eyes.

The creature sniffed nervously.

Then sneezed glitter everywhere.

The purple Flink blinked.

“You’re… not scary at all.”

The creature made a tiny squeak.

Then accidentally sat on a mushroom house.

“…Okay,” said the Flink. “Maybe a little scary.”

Chapter Three

The Monster Nobody Wanted

The next morning, the purple Flink brought the creature back to the village.

This turned out to be a terrible idea.

“MONSTER!” screamed one Flink.

“RUN!” shouted another.

Everyone bounced directly into each other in panic.

The giant creature looked heartbroken.

Its ears drooped sadly.

“It’s friendly!” shouted the purple Flink.

The monster gave a tiny hopeful wave.

Then accidentally sneezed glitter fire into somebody’s laundry basket.

The crowd screamed louder.

“See?!” yelled a Flink.

“IT BREATHES SPARKLES!”

The purple Flink stomped his foot.

“You’re scared because it’s different!”

The village went quiet.

Different.

That word again.

The monster slowly hid behind the purple Flink.

And for the first time ever…

The little purple Flink realised he wasn’t the only one who felt alone.

Chapter Four

The Worst Moon Parade Ever

The Moon Parade was supposed to be perfect.

But nothing in the Flink Forest stayed perfect for long.

Especially not with a giant magical creature nearby.

The blue Flinks marched together in neat bouncing lines.

Bounce bounce bounce.

Then suddenly…

The monster spotted floating lanterns.

Its eyes widened.

Its tail wagged wildly.

“Oh no,” whispered the purple Flink.

Too late.

WHOOSH.

The creature leapt into the air trying to catch the glowing lanterns.

Lanterns flew everywhere.

Flinks bounced into bushes.

One landed upside down in a soup pot.

Another accidentally swallowed a trumpet.

BWAAAAAARP.

Complete chaos exploded through the parade.

The village stared in horror.

Then slowly…

One tiny Flink started laughing.

Then another.

Soon the entire forest shook with giggles.

Even the mayor snorted juice through his nose.

And the purple Flink suddenly noticed something strange.

Everyone looked happier messy than they ever had perfect.

Chapter Five

The Secret Cave

Later that night, the monster led the purple Flink deep underground through glowing crystal tunnels.

At the end sat a hidden cave filled with old paintings.

Hundreds of them.

Pictures of strange creatures.

Different creatures.

Unique creatures.

All living happily together.

The purple Flink stared at the walls.

“These are ancient Flinks…”

The monster nodded sadly.

The final painting showed something important written underneath:

Magic grows strongest when nobody is forced to be the same.

The purple Flink read it three times.

Then smiled slowly.

“Oh.”

Maybe different wasn’t wrong after all.

Maybe different was the whole point.

Chapter Six

The Plan

The next morning, the purple Flink climbed onto the tallest rock in the village.

“I HAVE AN IDEA!” he shouted.

Nobody listened.

Mostly because two Flinks were arguing about identical sandwiches.

The purple Flink groaned loudly.

Then the monster let out a giant sparkly ROAR.

Everyone froze.

“Thank you,” muttered the Flink.

He cleared his throat.

“What if,” he began, “we stop trying to act exactly the same?”

The crowd gasped dramatically.

One Flink fainted into a berry bush.

“But then what would happen?” asked another nervously.

The purple Flink grinned.

“Something fun.”

Chapter Seven

The Festival Of Strange

Three days later, the first ever Festival of Strange began.

And honestly?

It was chaos immediately.

One Flink painted himself orange.

Another bounced backwards all day.

One Flink discovered he could sing opera.

Very badly.

The monster decorated everything with glowing glitter vines and floating flowers.

Even the shyest Flinks started trying new things.

And for the very first time…

Nobody laughed at anyone for being different.

Instead…

They cheered.

Chapter Eight

The Flink Who Finally Smiled

That evening, the purple Flink sat beside the monster watching glowing lanterns drift through the sky.

“You know,” said the monster softly, “you looked lonely before.”

The purple Flink shrugged.

“I thought being different meant something was wrong with me.”

The monster shook its fluffy head.

“Nope.”

It smiled.

“It usually means something magical.”

The purple Flink looked out across the laughing village.

For once…

Nobody was copying anyone else.

And somehow the forest felt more alive than ever.

Chapter Nine

The New Rule

The next morning, the mayor announced a brand new village rule.

Everyone waited nervously.

The mayor unfolded a giant scroll.

Then read loudly:

“Rule Number One…”

The crowd leaned closer.

“…There are no more rules about being the same.”

Silence.

Then cheers exploded everywhere.

Flinks bounced wildly through the streets.

Some upside down.

Some sideways.

One somehow bounced into a pie.

The purple Flink laughed so hard he nearly fell off his rock.

Chapter Ten

The Real Magic

Years later, visitors travelled from all over the magical world to visit the Flink Forest.

Not because the Flinks were perfect.

But because they were wonderfully themselves.

Some were loud.

Some were quiet.

Some danced.

Some painted.

Some invented glitter soup for reasons nobody understood.

And in the middle of it all stood the little purple Flink and his giant monster friend.

Still different.

Still strange.

Still magical.

Because the real magic was never about fitting in.

It was about finding the people who loved you exactly as you were.

✨ This is what me and the girls imagined Ellian’s monster may have looked like if her parents had not saved her in time, and she had fully transformed into her own magical creature.

A little wild, a little chaotic, but still full of heart underneath it all 💜
